Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Barahona and head northwest to begin our day trip to Lake Enriquillo.
During the approximately 2-hour journey, we'll pass through various typical Dominican villages and drive by the statue of the Taíno chief Enriquillo, the historical leader after whom the lake is named. We'll also make a brief stop at a viewpoint so you can photograph the immense beauty of this Caribbean landscape.
Upon arrival, we'll discover a fascinating environment. Did you know that Lake Enriquillo is the only body of water in the region located nearly 40 m below sea level? In this hot, dry ecosystem—dotted with fertile springs and small rivers—we'll board a typical boat to explore the waters. We'll navigate to a section of the shoreline that is perfect for spotting the crocodiles inhabiting the area. They are sure to amaze you!
After this exciting boat ride, we'll take a break to recharge with a delicious lunch featuring regional specialties.
After lunch, we'll begin the return journey and visit Neyba, a town famous for its large-scale grape production. We'll also stop at Las Marías, a beautiful public swimming area popular with locals during their free time, where you can relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Finally, we'll conclude the day trip by dropping you back off at your hotel in Barahona.
