If you’re in Barahona and feel like doing something unforgettable, come and discover the largest lake in the Dominican Republic on this day trip to Laguna de Oviedo. We’ll also spot the country’s largest flamingo colony. You’ll love it!
Day Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Barahona to begin our day trip to Laguna de Oviedo, in the heart of Jaragua National Park. Did you know this lagoon has a saltwater level 3 times higher than the sea? Incredible!
Once there, we’ll board a boat to explore this stunning natural area, which stretches for more than 10 km (6.2 mi) and features dense mangroves and 24 islets, also known as cays. During the boat ride, we’ll be able to spot large birds such as herons and spoonbills.
We’ll also approach Flamingo Island by boat, where we’ll observe the largest colony of flamingos in the Dominican Republic. It’s the perfect moment to take lots of photos!
You’ll also have the chance to enjoy a mud bath in one of the lagoon’s areas. According to legend, these mud baths are great for the skin. What’s certain is that it’ll be a lot of fun!
After changing clothes, we’ll head to the town of Paraíso to enjoy a typical Dominican lunch at a local restaurant. With your energy restored, you’ll have around 1 hour of free time to enjoy the area’s refreshing rivers and rocky beaches.
Finally, we’ll drop you off at your hotel in Barahona after a total of 7 hours.
Flamingo Watching
Flamingos are very common on Flamingo Island. However, animals are unpredictable, so we can’t guarantee how many you’ll see during the tour.
