Discover a Dominican replica of a Mediterranean village on this day trip to Altos de Chavón, where we’ll take in the landscapes overlooking the Chavón River.
Tour Details
Can you imagine visiting a beautiful Mediterranean village on the east coast of the Dominican Republic? We'll pick you up at the designated time and head towards one of the most picturesque places in the country, Altos de Chavón.
As we walk through the cobblestone streets, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back to the 16th century, thanks to the faithful recreation of a typical Italian village. Although it was built in 1976, it was designed to replicate the charm of a typical Italian village.
We’ll begin our visit at the Archaeological Museum, where we’ll view indigenous artifacts and learn about the pre-Columbian history of the area. Then, we’ll explore the Museum of Dominican Amber and Larimar, showcasing two of the country’s most valuable and internationally recognized gems.
Next, we’ll head to the viewpoint of Altos de Chavón to enjoy panoramic views of the landscape. We’ll also visit the Church of San Estanislao, the Traveso Fountain, and the impressive Amphitheater, three key spots that reflect the village’s beauty and spirit.
Our final stop will be the Altos de Chavón School of Art and Design, a prestigious institution affiliated with renowned art schools in Japan, France, and the United States.
Then, after 5 hours of sightseeing, we’ll conclude the tour and return to your hotel.
Cueva de las Maravillas
If you choose this option, we'll follow the same itinerary previously described. Plus, after Altos de Chavón, we'll go to the Cueva de las Maravillas (Cave of Wonders), one of the most spectacular caves of the Dominican Republic.
Finally, we'll conclude this day trip of 6 to 7 hours by returning to the starting point.
