On our Hólmavík Whale Watching activity, you'll have an unmissable experience in North West Iceland. We'll set sail through the Westfjords region and look out for humpback whales and more!
At your chosen time, we'll meet on Hafnarbraut Street at the Port of Hólmavík. We'll board our boat and set sail through the North Atlantic in search of the whales that inhabit Iceland's northwest coast.
We'll sail through the Westfjords region and, soon enough, we'll start to spot some whales. The most common species found in this area is the humpback whale, a species well-known for its playful personality and tendency to perform acrobatic tricks while swimming. These colossal animals can weigh up to 50 tonnes, and their whale songs can be heard up to 100 miles (160 kilometres) away. We'll discuss these fun facts and more during the activity.
You'll also want to keep your eyes peeled for Minke whales, dolphins, sperm whales, killer whales and even pilot whales during our boat trip.
After a between a 1 and 3-hour boat trip, we'll finish the activity upon our arrival back at the starting point. See you next time!
The Westfjords region is a strategic place for whale watching. However, animals are unpredictable. The amount of whales we see will depend on various factors such as sea currents, winds, and weather conditions at the time. Arctic weather can change very quickly, which directly influences the behaviour of the animals.
Please note that the duration of the tour may vary depending on the weather conditions and the time needed to locate the whales. In any case, the activity is always carried out with the utmost respect, without invading or disturbing their natural space.
