Visit the remnants of the ancient coral reef that stretched across the Australian outback millions of years ago on our Outback & Chillagoe Day Trip. You'll also explore some of the country's most striking spots during this excursion.
Outback & Chillagoe Day Trip
Between 6:45 and 7 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Cairns, where we'll hop on an air-conditioned minibus and start exploring the vast Australian Outback.
Our first stop of the day will be at a local coffee shop for a cup of coffee or tea. We'll then head to the Chillagoe-Mungana Caves, where we'll find breathtaking limestone labyrinths and the fossilised remains of an ancient coral reef that occupied this area 400 million years ago.
We'll then head to the Chillagoe smelter ruins. Here, we'll learn about the local history of copper smelting and admire how the old chimneys dominate this unique landscape.
You might be peckish by this point, so we'll go to one of Australia's oldest pubs for a tasty lunch. In this pub, which has been open for over 100 years, you'll be able to choose from a variety of dishes such as burgers, fish and more local specialities.
Following a delicious lunch, we'll continue on to the Aboriginal Art Rock so you can see some impressive rock paintings. On the way, we'll stop at Equilibrium Rock, where we're sure you'll be able to take some great photos.
The last stop on our day trip will be the Granite Gorge Nature Park. You'll meet the friendly and delightful wallabies that live here and admire the beautiful surrounding scenery.
After an unforgettable day spent in the Australian Outback, we'll finish our tour back at your hotel in Cairns, where we should arrive between 6:45 pm and 7 pm.
