If your cruise ship docks in Akureyri, don’t miss this day trip to Godafoss waterfall and the turf houses at Laufás. Icelandic nature and history. You'll fall in love!
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll meet at the Akureyri cruise terminal to set off on this journey through some of northern Iceland’s cultural and natural treasures. Are you ready? Let’s go!
We’ll drive along the stunning Eyjafjörður fjord, taking in the views as we head towards one of the country’s most breathtaking sights: Godafoss waterfall. Once we arrive, you’ll quickly understand why it’s called the Waterfall of the Gods.
We’ll watch as the waters of the Skjálfandafljót river plunge with thunderous force into a volcanic landscape that looks like something straight out of a film. As well as taking some spectacular photos, we’ll learn about the legend surrounding the Christianisation of Iceland that is associated with this site.
Our next stop will be the historic area of Laufás. Here, we’ll step back in time as we visit its famous turf houses, traditional buildings that blend seamlessly into the landscape and reveal what rural Icelandic life was like in centuries past. We’ll explore these picturesque dwellings and uncover the secrets of their unique architecture.
Before we finish, we’ll stop at a prime viewpoint to enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view of Akureyri and the fjord. It’s your last chance to capture the beauty of the north before returning to the ship!
After a 3.5-hour tour, we’ll wrap up the activity by returning to the port of Akureyri, leaving you plenty of time to board the ship at your leisure.
