Tour Details
Having picked you up from your hotel in Akureyri at the designated time, we'll set off on our tour around the must-see spots in the Diamond Circle. Detiffoss, Húsavík, Lake Mývatn and the Ásbyrgi Canyon await!
The first stop on our tour will be Goðafoss, the "Waterfall of the Gods". Although it's neither the biggest nor the largest waterfall in the country, this waterfall is definitely one of the most breathtaking.
Next, we'll visit Lake Mývatn and the volcanic area around it. In its surroundings we'll find Hverir, the most active geothermal area in Iceland. We'll be struck by the intense smell of sulphur as we observe the steam rising from the ground. Afterwards, we'll head to the Viti crater near the Krafla Volcano.
Our tour will then take us to the Dettifoss Waterfall, one of the highlights of our day trip. As you gaze at this waterfall, hidden in a remote area, you'll feel the thunderous rumble of 200 cubic metres of water falling per second.
Afterwards, we'll continue travelling through the Jökulsárgljúfur Canyon on our way to the Vesturdalur Valley. When we get there we'll see the Whispering Cliffs, which are known as "Hljóðaklettar" in Icelandic. We'll see the peculiar volcanic formations that have been shaped over the years and observe their resemblance to beehives.
During the final part of our day trip, we'll head to the horseshoe-shaped Ásbyrgi Canyon. According to legend, Pagan gods once gathered here. From this spot, we'll make our way to the colourful town of Húsavík. You'll have some free time here to grab a drink at one of its cafés.
We'll then return to Akureyri and finish our tour after a total of 9 hours.
