Want to see Iceland's famous black sand beaches and visit the villages of Siglufjörður and Hauganés? Join us on this day trip to the Arctic coast and Tröllaskagi peninsula. We'll enjoy incredible scenery and learn about the history of the fishing villages in the north of the country.
Day Trip to the Arctic Coast
At the appointed time we'll pick you up at your hotel in Akureyri and, aboard a 4x4 vehicle, we'll drive towards the Tröllaskagi peninsula. As we cross the northernmost lands of Iceland, we'll get to experience the breathtaking Arctic coastline, the Eyjafjörður fjord, spectacular rivers, and deep valleys.
We'll explain how this particular landscape was shaped during the Ice Age while we contemplate the mountains and pass through villages like Ólafsfjörður and Dalvík. We'll even stop on one of the unique black sand beaches.
The Arctic coastal excursion will take us to Siglufjörður, a seaside village where the TV series 'Trapped' was filmed. It's considered one of the most beautiful villages on the Tröllaskagi peninsula.
You can stroll through this village that stands out for its wooden houses and interesting history linked to herring fishing. We'll reveal all the details of the rise and fall of the golden age of this area.
After visiting Siglufjörður, we'll head to Hauganés. Here, time seems to have stood still during the last centuries as you pass among its small houses and meet the sparse local population. We'll take you to a black sand bay where you can enjoy a dip in the hot tubs installed on the beachfront. Its waters are heated by geothermal energy!
Before heading back to Akureyri, we'll eat a delicious lunch at a restaurant in Hauganés to recharge our batteries.
After six hours of day tripping, we'll end the tour and drop you off back at your hotel.
